This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore poetry through found materials, visual art, and collaborative zine-making. Inspired by movements in concrete poetry, found poetry, and even surrealism and dadaism, this workshop encourages participants to break conventional boundaries and reimagine poetic form. We’ll begin by crafting original poems from snippets of text found in provided everyday materials — old magazines, newspapers, packaging, and more — focusing on the unexpected meanings and associations that emerge from recontextualized language. Participants will then create visual collages to accompany their poems, building on traditions of juxtaposition and abstraction. The workshop will culminate in a collaborative Festival zine (digital and print) that captures the spirit and voices of the community.
Whether you’re drawn to the randomness of Dada, the dreamlike associations of Surrealism, or the visual interplay of Concrete Poetry, this workshop will offer fresh perspectives on language and self-expression.
