About me
David Silva is Provost and Academic Vice President at Salem State University, overseeing academic programs, accreditation, and faculty support. Before joining SSU in 2015, he was Professor of Linguistics, Distinguished Teaching Professor, and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington for over 20 years. A Founding Fellow of the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2013, his teaching and research focus on language variation and language attitudes in Korean and in Portuguese. A child of Azorean Portuguese immigrants and first-generation college graduate, Silva earned his A.B. from Harvard and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell in linguistics.
