"J.D. Scrimgeour is the author of six poetry collections, the most recent being Small, Rectangular, Reflected World (Nixes Mate, 2025). Among his other collections is a book of bilingual poetry, 香蕉面包 /Banana Bread. With musician Philip Swanson, he released Ogunquit & Other Works, a CD blending music and poetry. Scrimgeour won the Association of Writers and Writing Program’s (AWP) Award for Nonfiction for his second book of nonfiction, Themes for English B: A Professor’s Education In & Out of Class. Recent work has appeared in AWP Chronicle, The Common, Fourth Genre, Lily Poetry Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Plume, Poetry International, and Solstice. He leads the poetry translation group, The Ginling Collective, which translates contemporary Chinese poetry into English. Their translations have appeared in Literary Matters, The Lowell Review, Northwest Review and Washington Square Review. He was recently named the inaugural poet laureate of Salem, Massachusetts."
